Intruder!

Okay, so one of my biggest fears is someone breaking into my house. Luckily, it wasn't this kind of intruder we had Friday night, but one of a different variety. Yup, we had the first mouse in our house in 4 years! It's crazy what kind of trouble one little mouse can cause. The story actually starts last weekend. Josh is a scout leader, and last weekend they had a campout. He only went on Friday night, since he had other commitments Saturday morning. So, Josh was the one to bring the food. He put it in our cooler, and just left it up there with the scouts for their breakfast Saturday morning. So, we just got our cooler back last night, and it had been sitting outside, at the other scout leaders house all week. Little did we know, the scouts had left garbage and food in the cooler. So, when we brought the cooler in the house, we are assuming that is how the mouse got in. So, I was sitting on our bed feeding Daniel, and I saw a little furball run past the bedroom door. I wasn't sure what it was, and then I saw it again. I was so scared! I told Josh about it, and at first he wasn't sure I had really seen one, since sometimes I think I see mice when they are not really there. So, I'm there freaking out on the bed and Josh is trying to figure out what to do. He goes to Maverick, and they don't have mouse traps, so he went over to the Chevron station. They had one package of two traps that were kind of poorly built. Well, Josh gets back and puts peanut butter on them, and places them so the mouse is sure to run over one of them. The mouse was running from behind our bedroom door, behind our entertainment center, and behind my dresser, where he spent most of his time. Well, that darn mouse would run right past the traps and nothing would happen. Lindsay was supposed to be in bed, but she was curious what was going on. We told her there was a mouse in our room, and she was excited because she thought it was Mickey Mouse. She said, "Why is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse [her favorite show] behind mommy's dresser?" It was cute. I told Josh there is no way I am sleeping at home with a mouse in our bedroom. Not happening. So, at 10:30 I loaded up the kids and drove to my parents house in Shelley. They are currently on vacation, but I know they won't care I stayed there. Well, their neighbors across the street are watching their house, and they freaked out when they saw lights on and knew my parents weren't home. So, they called and were like, who is this? I explained to them the situation and they were glad it was just me. I am just really glad they didn't call the police, or my parents! That would have been bad. Anyways, Josh stayed here alone (well, him and Mickey), just waiting for the darn thing to get trapped. This morning, it still hadn't been trapped. So, he went outside and borrowed our neighbor's cat. The cat caught the mouse! The cat also tried hiding under our bed and wouldn't come out. Josh got it out, but not without it scratching him. Then the cat was scared, and jumped out our bedroom window, bending the screen in the process. So, there was a lot of craziness for one little mouse, but I'm just glad it's taken care of! So, I guess the moral of the story is, don't let the scouts leave a cooler outside with food and garbage in it, and then bring it in the house!

Oh my heck!!! That is a huge fear I have. I can't sleep with critters, either. For future times (and I hope you don't have any), I keep the sticky traps on hand at all times. We also have a bucket trap that works really, really well. Holler and we'll come over to help.
